Articles: ‘A’, ‘An’and “The are known as articles, there are two
types of articles:
1)DefiniteArticles : (निश्चित उपपद)
2) Indefinite articles : (अनिश्चित उपपद)

The :-
Definite article is used to refer to a particular person or thing.
1) The manager
2) The circus
3) The book
4) The school
5) The home
ARTICLES
2)Indefinte article
Indefinite articles do not refer to any particular person or thing
1)A cap
2)An umbrella
3) An elephant
4) A guest house
6)An orange.
‘A’ is used before a word beginning with consonant sound., “An!
is used before a word begining with a vowel sound.
प्रत्येक भाषेची वैशिष्टये असतात. उपपद हे इंग्रजी भाषेचे वैशिष्टये आहे
मराठी भाषेत उपपदे नाहीत.
१. एकवचनी सामान्य नामापूर्वी व किंवा anया उपपदाचा वापर केला जातो.
e.g. a pen, a book, a cat, an apple etc.
2.a किवा an याचा अर्थ एक असा होतो. म्हणून एकवचनी सामान्यनामापूर्वी ‘a
*an’चा वापर करतात.
३. ज्या नामाची सुरूवात स्वराने होते (a,e, i, 0,u) आणि उच्चारही स्वरोवार
असतो त्या नामापुर्वी an वापरतात.
ex. an eye, an owl, an ass, an inkpot, an egg etc.
४.ज्या नामाची सुरूवात व्यंजनाने होते (a.c.i,ou
सोडून इतर) आणि उच्चारत
ex, an hour, an honest, an heir, an M.L.A. etc.

५. धंदा किंवा व्यवसाय सुधित करणाया नामापूर्वी a a anया उपपदाचा वापर
करतात.
Ravi was a teacher
Umesh is an electrician
lam an actor
६. ज्या नामाची सुरुवात स्वरानि होते परंतु उच्चार व्यजनोपर असेल तर त्या
नामापूर्वी उपपद वापरतात.
ex an university, a union, aeropean etc.
ARTICLES
७. काही संख्यावाचक नामापूर्वी A,An चा वापर करतात.
ex a hundred, a couple, an eight, an inch etc.
८. दर, प्रमाण, वेग सुचित करण्यार्या नामापुर्वी A, An चा वापर करतात.
ex. Seven rupees a dozen
Fifty rupees a dozen
Eighty kilometers an hour etc.

९. What ने सुरू होणाया उदगारार्थी वाक्यात एकवचनी नामापूर्वी a,an चा वापर
करतात.ex.
What a beautiful face!
What an honest boy Shiva is!
ARTICLES
खालील बाबतीत a,an चा वापर केला जात नाही.
१. अनेकवचनी नामापूर्वी a,an वापरत नाहीत,
ex . pens, boxes, books etc.
जे नाम वस्तुतः योजता येत नाही त्या नामापुर्वी a,an वापरत नाहीत.
ex water, goodness, oil, wheat etc.
द्रवपदार्थ आणि घटनायपदार्थाच्या नामापूर्वी a,an वापरत नाहीत.
ex. sugar, milk, oil etc.
४. भाववचाक नामापूर्वी a,an पापरत नाहीत.
ex. Honesty, fear, good, bad etc.
DefiniteArticle निश्चित उपपद (the) चा उपयोग.
ज्या बद्दल आपण अगोदरच बोललो असेल अशी व्यक्ती या वस्तू
दर्शविण्यासाठी the चा वापर करतात.
१.
ex. १) My frend gave me a book.
२) The book is very important
३) He visited a place
४) The place is Historical
ARTICLES
२. एकवचनी नाम जेव्हा संपूर्ण जात किंवा वर्ग दर्शविते तेव्हा the उपपद वापरतात.
१) The cow is useful animal.
२) The dog is honest animal.
३. Superlative Degree मध्ये विशेषणा अगोदर the उपपद वापरतात.
ex. Temperature is one of the most importat physical factors
Mumbai is the biggest city in India
४. विशेष जेव्हा सामान्यनाम म्हणून वापरले जाते तेव्हा त्या नामापूर्वी the हे उपपद वापरतात.
५. कोणत्याही भाषेच्या नामापूर्वी the चा वापर करू नये.
