PREPOSITION १
The words that are used before a noun/pronoun to show the
relationship of these words to some other parts of the sentence,
are called preposition.
(नामाच्या किंवा सर्वनामाच्या पूर्वी वापरल्या जाणाया आणि
त्यांचा वाक्यातील दुसया शब्दांशी संबंध जोडणाया शब्दांना शब्दयोगी अव्यये असे म्हणतात)
Ex. The dog is sleeping under a bush.
There is a mango tree between two neem trees.
The cat jumps upon a table.
– वरील वाक्यातध्ये Under, between, upon prepositions आहेत.
इंग्रजीमध्ये Preposition स्वतंत्र असून ते शब्दापूर्वी वापरतात.
काही महत्वाच्या शब्दयोगी अव्ययांची माहिती.
On, upon, up, over, above,
१) on:
एखाद्या वस्तूला स्पर्श करून वर असा उल्लेख असताना on चा वापर करतात
1) Ex. My book is on the table.
2) वेळ किवा काळ दर्शविण्यासाठी वार व तारखेपूर्वी on चा वापर केला जातो.
Ex. Gopal sits on my right in the class on Saturday.
3) बाजू दाखविण्यासाठी on वापरतात.
Ex. Nachiket sits on my left in the class.
4) एखाद्या विषयावर लिहिणे किंवा बोलणे या अर्थाने on चा वापर करतात.
Ex. Rahul wrote an essay on the Indian farmer.
5) एखाद्यावर अवलंबून असणे या अर्थाने on चा वापर करतात.
Ex. The children depend on their parents.
6) मुद्दाम येणे, हाक मारणे असा अर्थबोध होत असताना on वापरतात.
Ex. Krishna came here on purpose.
7) सुरू करणे, पकडणे या अर्थाने फ्रेज मध्ये on वापरतात.
Ex. Mother turned the gas on.
Put on, hold on, the radio set was on.

2.upon.
१) हालचाल करून व अशा अर्थाने uponचा वापर करतात.
ex. The cat jumps upon the table.
२) एखादी गोष्ट पाहून अशा अर्थाने upon चा वापर करतात.
Ex. The child is joyful upon seeing his mother.
करतात.
Ex. Shankar has no time to attend upon his family.

3) up:
1) वरच्या दिशेला जाणे या अर्थाने up चा वापर करतात,
e.g.
१) The train is going up to Surat.
२) वर असलेली स्थिती स्पष्ट करण्यासाठी up चा वापर करतात
४) Over:
1) स्पर्श न करता वर अशा अर्थाने Over चा वापर करतात.
ex. The sky is over our heads.
२) अमूक वयापेक्षा जास्त अशा अर्थाने Over चा वापर करतात
ex. My grandfather is over eighty years old.
३) एखाद्यावर हुकूमत किंवा सत्ता गाजविणे असा उल्लेख असताना power नंतर
Over चा वापर करतात.
ex. The king had power over his subjects.
४) वरचे पद मिळणे असा अर्थबोध होत असेल तर Over चा वापर करतात.
ex. Krishna is placed over him.

५) Above:
१) स्पर्श न करता वर असा उल्लेख असताना above चा वापर करतात.
ex. The fan is above our heads.
२) च्यापेक्षा जास्त या अर्थाने above वापरतात
ex. Krishan’s payment isn’t above his income.
३) च्यावर असणे या अर्थाने above चा वापर करतात.
ex. There are four names above mine in the list.
६) in:
१) आत असून स्थिर असणे या अर्थाने in चा वापर करतात.
ex. Ganpat is in his study room.
२) महिने, वर्ष, ऋतू, दिवसाचा भाग यांच्यापूर्वी in वापरतात.
e.g. in the morning/in December/ in four months /in Winter.
३) भविष्यकाळात होऊ घातलेल्या क्रियेचा उल्लेख करताना कालदर्शक शब्दापूर्वी चा
in वापरतात.
ex. in a month, in four hours, in three weeks, in two days.
४) मोठी शहरे, राज्य,देश यांच्या नावापूर्वी in वापरतात.
ex. in Mumbai,in America, in Maharashtra.
७) into:
१) हालचाल करून आत येणे किंवा जाणे या अर्थाने into चा वापर करतात.
ex. The boy is coming into the garden.
२) स्थितीत बदल होताना into चा वापर करतात.
ex. Their rage melted into love.

८) between:
१) दोन वस्तू किंवा व्यक्ती यांच्यामध्ये असा उल्लेख असताना between चा
वापर करतात.
ex. Ganpat stood between Gopan and Krishna.
९) among (amongst) :
अनेकांच्यामध्ये असा उल्लेख असताना among चा वापर करतात.
e.g. He was lost among the crowd.
१०) within :
1) एखाद्या कालावधीच्या समाप्तीच्या शेटच्या क्षणाच्या आत अशा अनि within
arrara. ex. Hemant will return within a week.
११) through:
१) गती दाखविण्यासाठी through चा वापर च्यामधून पुढे जाणे या अर्थाने वापरतात
ex. We walked the rest of the way through the trees.
२) अनेक अडचणीमधून,एखाद्या कृतीमधून, स्वाभाविक वैशिष्टयामधून अशा अर्थाने
सुध्दा
through चा वापर करतात.
ex. Vinay has set up this through many difficulties.
All this was done through jealousy.

१२) down :
खालच्या दिशेने जाणे या अर्थाने down चा वापर करतात.
ex. The train is going down to Bhusawal.
1) खाली या अर्थाने स्थैर्य निश्चित करण्यासाठी down चा वापर करतात.
ex. Sit down.
१३) Under
१) एखाद्या वस्तूच्या खाली अशा अर्थाने under चा वापर करतात.
e.g. The farmer sits under a tree
The dog is sleeping under a bush.
14) below
१) कनिष्ठ पदावर असणे असा उल्लेख असताना below चा वापर करतात.
ex. Pankjis below me in the office.
२) एखाद्या ठिकाणाहून खाली अर्थाने below चा वापर करतात
e.g. From the top of mountain we can see the lake below.
१५) beneath:
१) एखाद्या ठिकाणाहून खाली अशा अर्थाने beneath चा वापर करतात.
ex. The furit fell upon the spot beneath.
२) कनिष्ठ अवस्था दाखविण्यासाठी beneath चा वापर करतात.
